In this video, I share how I discovered what I now call The Certification Principle and how it has shaped my growth as an engineer, founder, and lifelong learner for nearly two decades. Inspired early on by the idea shared by Bill Gates that deep understanding comes from disciplined learning, I learned firsthand how certifications reveal blind spots that hands-on experience alone can miss. In 2025, advice from Sergey Brin reinforced this mindset. His view that computer scientists should not be retired right now because of AI pushed me to deliberately evolve my technical depth in the AI era. Within six months, I earned four AI and cloud certifications and used that learning to help drive AI transformation at FlexiSAF and significantly advance Distinction.app, our AI-powered teaching and learning platform.
